Salesforce Tower represents the third and final phase of the Wolf Point masterplan and cements itself as the newest focal point of the Chicago skyline. The history behind the site dates to the 1820s and 1830s, when it held the Wolf Point Tavern and the Sauganash Hotel — the first of their kind, and the epicenter of future urban development in Chicago. Wolf Point saw the first railroad depot in Chicago, the Illinois and Michigan Canal, the Merchandise Mart, and the Chicago Riverwalk — and now, Salesforce Tower.
Richards & Weyer Construction is responsible for the masonry partitions in the basement levels that make up the foundation of Salesforce Tower. The significance runs deeper: it is the first skyscraper the firm has constructed start to finish. The project presented logistical challenges and required solutions unparalleled in past work. Working on a building of this magnitude required the best of the best in every trade — and through it, Richards & Weyer entered a new level of prestige in the field of masonry, joining the long, cyclical story of Chicago’s urban development.
