New Lenox Police Department

Driving past the New Lenox Police Department, the first things you notice are the limestone arches above the windows and the limestone bands that extend around the building. Richards & Weyer won the Excellence in Masonry award for the precision in this structure: a beautiful multi-wythe building with distinguished returns at openings; brick and stone cut for precise placement of stone heads and sills; and split-face concrete block at the trash enclosure cut and placed so its walls line up perfectly with the stone landscape wall behind it.

Facing Veterans Parkway, the double-pier optical illusion with the parabolic limestone arch and keystone accent draws the eye — next to “New Lenox Police” etched into the stone above the four storefront piers. Inside, smooth-face concrete units laid in a stack bond pattern extend from the ground to the ceiling of the main staircase. From head to toe, this building is a work of art for the trained and untrained eye alike.
